4 Generations in One Photo

A Generational Photo- A Legacy Captured

It’s not everyday I get tasked with the very important session of photographing 4 generations of amazing woman. But when I do, it is just as magical as you can expect.

I was honored to photograph Delaney for her senior portraits a few years ago.    And when her mom Carrie called and told me she wanted to capture 4 generation of women I was so excited.  I love creating portraits that have meaning and will be loved for generations to come.  This portrait session was definitely one of them.

We were looking for a beautiful spot of fall leaves and the trees at Ella Sharp along the back road all seem to turn a bright orange together.  I captured my own daughter there just a week before so I knew it could be done.   I knew with the sun coming thru behind them, that this would be perfect.

The weather was nice, but just a tad chilly as it was late October. I started out by first getting all the posing set up for the 4 women.  Once I get it set where everyone would be, we then had Great Grandma come out to be placed first.  Concern was her getting cold quickly so we wanted to get everyone set first.

It is truly an amazing thing, seeing a beautiful connection between women in a family.  Being able to capture all 4 generations of woman together, after such a crazy year, will be one of the highlights.  Once we captured all the ones with all 4, I then took smaller groupings so we can get as many vacations as possible in the session.  But the light at the end of the session kept calling to me so I asked if Great Grandma could come back out one more time for some final shots. I think we captured some truly beautiful images and I'm so thankful Carrie  called me to make this happen for them.

I find it is after a year like we all just had, that you make the moments in your life, you don't wait for them.  Make the time to be together. Make a time for that vacation or trip somewhere.  I know work is stressful, money makes life stressful, and school/kids/etc add all to the stress. But the one thing I won’t regret during this time, is making time for my family.  And I know you won't either.

Just like these beautiful women getting together to chat, laugh and just be in each others company.  I am just grateful enough to have been there to capture the little moments in between!
